Does anything need to be reprogrammed in the computer to be able to tow? I heard a rumor about this but am unsure. Thanks

One of my coworkers has a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee which is the same generation as your 2011. When we went to install a 7-Way trailer connector on it the vehicle did have to be reprogrammed by a Jeep dealer. The Jeep should have the wiring there to add a 7-Way but it would not be fully functional unless the BCM was flashed by a dealership. You will not have to do this if you were to add a 4-Way trailer connector.
If you plan on doing some towing in addition to the trailer hitch, # C13065, I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It includes 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
And to add a 4-Way trailer connector you can use # 118425. I have linked videos showing installations of the hitch and wiring for you.
