Hello David, thanks for reaching out. The Curt Trailer Hitch Spare Tire Mount # c31006 has a hollow shank so I recommend using the Curt Anti-Rattle Kit for Hollow Shank Accessories # C69HR. This has an insert with a weld nut that goes inside the shank of the spare tire carrier. You can then use the threaded bolt to put tension on the whole assembly and reduce play.
