Question:

I have a 2001 Pace American 5x8 enclosed trailer that I’m looking for a wheel bearing for. I see that you guys sell wheel bearings, but I’m kind of out of my element here. I was hoping that maybe someone could help me out or at least point me in the right direction. Thank you!

Hey James, I can definitely point you in the right direction. As you probably noticed, there are a ton of different bearing sizes out there for trailers. There are two good ways to determine which one will be correct for your trailer.

The best way is to remove one of the hubs from the trailer and unpack the bearings. Clean up the bearings a little bit and you should see a number stamped on the edge. Using the bearing number is the most foolproof way of making sure you get the right replacements. Keep in mind that on some trailers, the inner and outer bearings will be different sizes.

If no numbers are visible on the bearings, the other way to determine the size is to use a digital caliper such as part # PTW80157 to measure the inner diameter of each bearing.

For example, the most common bearing sizes we see are the standard 3,500 lb axle bearings which are the # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) inner bearing and the # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) outer bearing.

There is no way to look up your trailer to know what bearing sizes you have, so the only way will be to remove a hub and see. Take a look at your hubs/bearings and if you want to post your bearing sizes or measurements in the comments below, I am happy to look into it and see what we can do.
