Can Dexter Hub 8-201-5UC3 Get Replaced by 8-201-9UC3-EZ

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/10/2024

Question:

If I have a 8-201-5 hub, can I replace it with a 8-201-9 hub? It appears both come in the same setup, just the 8-201-9 has a heavier outer bearing.

Hey Tony, yes both of the hubs you mentioned fit the same spindle size so you can replace a # 8-201-5UC3 with a # 8-201-9UC3-EZ. The outer bearings are different but the inner diameters of the bearings is the exact same.

Hey Tony, how did the swap to the 8-201-9 hub go on your axle? It sounds like the matching spindle size should have made it a smooth replacement. Sharing how it turned out could help others looking at the same hub change.

@JamesonC yes, I did do the swap from the 5200# axle hub 8-201-5UC3 to the 6000# axle hub 8-201-9UC3 on both axles of my 5th wheel. The 9UC3 with larger outer bearings gives me 1600# more weight capacity, paired with my G rated tires, it makes me much more comfortable when towing on longer trips. I have also upgraded my spring packs to a 6-spring. I have not increased weight on my 5th wheel, but as you all know, from the factory, campers have borderline running gear. I am very comfortable now as far as having to deal with axle, spring, and tire tolerances. Thanks Jameson @ etrailer for helping me pair my equipment without having to change the entire axle.
