Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/10/2024 >
Question:
what drop for a ball mount should I get to tow a utility trailer with my 2019 toyota highlander? Installed the hitch last year, but never used it. Been using a 3 1/4 drop from my nissan frontier hitch. Would I use the same?

Hey Lisa,
So while I wouldn't' be able to tell you the exact drop you need for your ball mount when towing with your 2019 Toyota Highlander, but I can tell you how to determine the right one. It's actually really easy as you just need to measure from the ground to the top of your Highlander's hitch, and then from the ground to the bottom of your trailer's coupler.
For example, if you measured 17 inches from the ground to the top of your Highlander's hitch, and 15 inches from the ground to the bottom of your trailer coupler you'd need a ball mount with 2 inches of drop, like the etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball - 2" Drop # e67DR.
I'll leave a link below to our selection of ball mounts for you which you can filter through once you know the measurement. Or if you leave a comment below and let me know I can find for you.

Hey Lisa, were you able to take those measurements between your Highlander’s hitch and your trailer coupler? Once you had them, did the 2-inch drop ball mount end up being the right fit? Your update could make it easier for the next person setting up a similar trailer.
