Hi, i just needed the shank not with the backbone. Hopefully you have it because it is kind of expensive to spend $300 for both hopefully just a shank with a cheaper price.

@Chris unfortunately, Thule doesn't offer just the shank. I wish they did but the full assembly with the backbone is the only option.

Yes, if you remove the shank of your T2 917XTR and install the part #753-3581 in place of it you'll have converted your bike rack to a 2 inch hitch bike rack and it will be much more stable than it was before.

Hey Tb, unlike many other Thule racks Thule doesn't have a 2 inch adapter that fits the T2 917XTR so what that means is you'd have to replace the shank with the part #753-3581 which basically converts the rack to the 2 inch version of it.

The Thule T2(917) bike rack should fit up to a 29" diameter tire that is 3" wide with the stock parts according to Thule. So the Replacement Locking Ratchet Arm Assembly #753-3579 and Replacement Hook #753-3583 are going to be the same size…

Bryan, that part is not sold separately, unfortunately. To replace this part you'd need to replace the entire shank and backbone assembly with the Replacement 2" Shank for Thule T2 and T2 Classic Bike Carriers #753-3581.

To install the Replacement Fat Tire Front Wheel Tray for Thule T2 Classic Platform Bike Racks #8523598001 you will just need to remove the 2 screws holding the old tray in place and then use those same screws to install the new one (see attached).

You are correct, I checked with Thule and the Replacement Spar and Pivot Tube #TH28RV that you referenced is the correct replacement part for the 1-1/4 inch version of the T2 Rack part #TH9045 and the 917XTR you referenced.

I checked with Thule and if the cable locks were cut on the arm of your Thule T2 #TH916XTR the only way to replace it is with a replacement locking ratchet arm assembly part #752-1272-001.
