Are There Any Trailer Hubs With A 6 On 5.5 Bolt Pattern That Are 3-3/8" In total Depth

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/24/2024

Question:

Hello, I have 1984 cox 944 utility trailer. It currently has a 5 lug pattern hub on it. I want to swap to a 6 lug 5.5 tacoma pattern. Inner bearing is L68149, outer bearing is L44649 total hub depth measuring through center is 3 3/8... What spindle type is this? You guys have a hub I think that would work, but want to make sure its compatible with my spindle. Thanks Glenn

Hey Glenn,

We do offer hubs with a 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern that use bearings # L44649 and # L68149 but they're all 4" or larger in depth. I'm not quite sure what spindle was used on your trailer, but I've seen a lot of older boat trailers with shorter spindles so it's most likely something that's been long discontinued. If you're wanting to switch to this bolt pattern then you'll most likely end up having to replace the axle to something a bit more modern. If this is the route you want to take then give our customer service department (1-800-940-8924) a call and they can order an axle for you.

Hey Glenn, were you able to find an axle that worked for your trailer so you could switch to the 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern? Knowing what solution you went with could help others working with older trailer setups.
