There's definitely a lot of options for adding a brake controller to your 2017 Toyota Tacoma so I can give you some guidance. The best option for a brake controller for your Tacoma is the Liberty from Redarc, and here's what you'll need:
- Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR
- Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # RED99FR
The Liberty does a couple of things better than any other controller, one of which is keep your Tacoma's cab from being cluttered. It uses just a control knob to operate, so you'll have more space in your cab than a brake controller you have to mount somewhere under your dash. The control knob even has a custom mounting panel designed to fit your truck, which is part # 331-TPSI-002.
The Liberty also does a better job than others of giving you control over your trailer braking. Just turn the dial up for more braking power or down for less. The manual override is also controlled by pressing this button, so it's a lot easier to reach when needed than one of the controllers under the dash.
