Air Bag Or SumoSprings For a 2016 Toyota Tundra with 1,600LB Slide In Camper

Updated 05/22/2024 | Published 05/19/2024

Question:

I’m wondering if you have recommendations, putting a 1600lb slide in camper on my 2016 Tundra, Airbags vs sumosprings? Reviews complain the airbags are too stiff when empty? I thought of airbags immediately but don’t want to ride a buckboard all year. Camper will be in the Truck May-September most years. Thanks!

I would recommend the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs # AL88299 over the SumoSprings # SSR-610-47 for your 2016 Toyota Tundra carrying a slide in camper. The Air springs allow you to adjust the air pressure in the springs to dial in your ride quality. And when unloaded you can lower the air pressure down to 5psi which hardly adds any support to the suspension.

I prefer to use the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System # AL74000 with the air springs. This allows you to easily adjust the air pressure in the springs from either the wireless remote or your smart phone using the Air Lift App. My favorite feature is the smart manifold will monitor the air pressure while you drive and make changes should it change by more than 3psi from your last setting.
