Can 26" Double-Eye Leaf springs Replace 25-1/2" Double-Eye Leaf Springs

Question:
Hello, I have a tandem axle travel trailer with Dexter 248744 axles rated at 4400 lbs. The leaf springs on the trailer are 4-leaf, 1.75inch wide and 25.5inch from eye to eye on center. This measurement was taken with the trailer lifted and supported by the frame and the axles are unweighted. I want to replace the original leaf springs with the e27SR 4500 lbs. springs you have that are 26inch from eye to eye on center. Will these springs fit on my trailer or would I need a different equalizer that accounts for the 1/2inch difference in the length of the new springs? Tim Allison

Hi Tim,
A half inch difference between your old springs and some new springs would be well within tolerance so you would not need to replace the equalizer. The equalizer end of the # e27SR will sit slightly more in towards to the center hanger but it's such a small amount that it won't make a huge difference. You will want to replace the U-bolts when swapping out the leaf springs since they get stretched when torqued down and shouldn't be reused. With you having a 4,400lb axle it should be 3" in diameter so you could use part # APUBR-8 for each axle.
This is also a great time to check out the rest of your suspension for any loose or worn components and replace as necessary.
