Is the Thin Hitch Pin With The Kuat Piston Pro 1-1/4" Bike Rack Strong Enough To Hold The Rack?
Published 04/18/2024 >
Question:
I have a 1.25inch receiver, and the specs on this rack show a 3/8inch hitch pin. Used to tow a horse trailer with my 2inch receiver truck, used to a robust pin for that application. This pin seems a bit skinny-just need some reassurance it will hold up with 2 bikes and the weight of the rack

Expert Reply:
The hitch pin for the Kuat Piston Pro Bike Rack # KU66ZR which fits your 1-1/4" receiver is more of an anti-theft device than an actual securing pin. The built in anti-rattle puts tension on the receiver which holds the bike rack in place. When this is tight in the receiver the rack is not able to slide around in the receiver like your ball mount which used the larger hitch pin.
