Why do you have to permanently remove the front tow hooks to mount the curt front mount reciever hitch on a 2022 ram 1500 truck?

Hey Bob,

Front mounted hitches, like the Curt # C87FR are going to mount in the same location on the frame rail as the tow hooks so they'll need to be removed in order to install the trailer hitch.

I realize the hooks need to be removed for installation of the hitch bracket to be flush with the bottom of the frame rail member. But why can't I use a 5/16" spacer plate [ which is the thickness of the hitch bracket] between the hook base and the frame rail and re-mount the hooks with longer bolts? Yes the hooks will be 5/16" lower in the bumper opening but that is no big deal, considering I will be able to retain the factory hooks.

@BobH You'd likely run into fitment issues with the fascia and you'd then be putting more leverage on the hooks than the manufacturer initially intended. I completely understand what you're wanting to do, manufacturers just haven't attempted and tested this yet so if you do it you'd just be liable in the event that anything failed.

There is a front mount hitch for your 2022 Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn that isn't the Classic, but it only fits if you do not have the factory towing hooks. You'll need to the Curt #C87FR to fit your truck.

No, I am sorry Rick we do not. The only front hitch available for the 2024 Ram 1500 is the Curt item #C87FR and it does not fit the Rebel model because the amount of modification required to get the receiver through the front end.

The tow hooks of your 2020 Ram 1500 do need to be permanently removed to install the Curt hitch #C87FR that you referenced. There isn't a similar hitch that would allow the tow hooks to remain.
