Tow Bar, Base Plate, Wiring, Braking System to Flat Tow 2003 Subaru Impreza and 1998 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
I have a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX sedan and find part number 916-1 Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms is the part number for both WRX and Excluding WRX. The part for WRX and STi is right above the part that says Excluding WRX, STi and Outbackinch - and both have the same part number 916-1. I dont know whether it does or does not work for WRX and I couldnt find an alternative so have to ask. I intend to tow my WRX and 1998 4Runner not at the same time of course:

I spoke with my contact at Roadmaster and Base Plate Kit, # 916-1 is the correct base plate kit for your 2003 Subaru Impreza.
The Base Plate Kit, # 1148-1, is the correct kit for your 1998 Toyota 4Runner.
The RoadMaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520, that you mentioned is a good, economical choice with many great features like a quick disconnect system, telescoping arms for easy hookup, and a full length steel cross bar to help support your vehicle frame.
As for a towing kit, I recommend the following :
Magnetic Towing Light Kit, # RM-2120. This universal light kit would be a great option and could be used on both vehicles.
RoadMaster 68" Safety Cables, # RM-643, which offers extra security for your tow system.
RoadMaster Lock Set, # RM-304. Set includes 1 hitch lock and 2 keyed-alike padlocks and keys.
The RoadMaster Falcon/Blackhawk 2 Combo Towing Kit, # RM-9243-1, has not been confirmed by the manufacturer as a fit for the 2003 WRX or the 1998 4Runner.
Finally, a supplemental braking system is mandatory in most states and is needed to help stop the tow and towed vehicle. It also helps to reduce wear on the tow vehicle's braking system. I recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, # RM-9400. With it's nearly universal application, this system is portable, and very easy to install and use. To ease the switch from vehicle to vehicle, Roadmaster offers the 2nd Vehicle Kit, # RM-98400. By installing this kit on the second vehicle, the only thing that you will need to do when getting ready to tow this vehicle is to set up the portable, brake actuating device and you are ready to go.
As an added reminder, it is always recommended that you check your owner's manual to make sure that both of your vehicles are capable of being flat towed and to ensure that no additional modifications need to be made.
