Roof Rack and Board Carrier Recommendation for 2016 Toyota Prius V with Glass Roof
Question:
I have a 2016 Prius V with panoramic glass roof that I would like to use to transport a large watersports board 28 wide, 60 long long distances, and Im trying to figure out the cheaper options. I like the lockrack option, but I think I would need a ~$600 Yakima rack first. Do I have any other options, either on top or off of a hitch? Im considering installing a hitch regardless to put a cargo rack on, but didnt know if that could accommodate a large board through any of your products. I estimate it would be best to put the board on top and extra gear on a hitch based cargo rack.

For your 2016 Toyota Prius V you will need to install a roof rack to carry the boards you mentioned. Unfortunately only Yakima makes roof racks for your vehicle and they aren't exactly super cheap. So for that you would want the Yakima CoreBar part numbers # Y00425, # Y28TR, # Y06117, # Y06174. Which with that you'd be able to use the LockRack kpart # LR59FR that you referenced. This will attach to the crossbar by the top channel.

Additional that I think the lock rack can be slide over even at maximum width to only take up 25” of channel width. Perhaps a 24” box can be fit beside it in a 50” bar? Or would I still need, and perhaps prefer a 60” bar, if that is compatible? Still open to other solutions

Is this set up compatible with longer bars? I’ve purchased the lock rack and I’m using it on my other car. I’m trying to see if I can fit a narrow rooftop box or bag next to the board. The board I’m transporting requires maximum extension of the lock rack, so I think it requires 30-32” of width. I would then like to haul the accessories for the equipment on the roof, and get as much storage space as possible. A bag would be fine, but I’m not sure there are bags or boxes narrow enough to fit the remaining <20”. I think the solution would be a narrow box or bag, or longer bars. Are these feasible solutions? Or do you have another suggestion?
