Question:

I currently have a 2000Lb idler axle on my boat trailer and would like to add hydraulic brakes. My problem is it is not a standard axle. How much distance will I need from the back of the current seal for a brake flange. I will need to get it welded by a shop and dont want to try to find one if I would be better with a new axle. 57 hub face 47 spring centers? Can you get me an axle with brake flanges -1-1/16 bearinngs?

To install the Brake Mounting Flange # 4-34 on your 2,000 lb axle you'll need to have an experienced welder/trailer shop do the installation for you as they would know the best placement for the flange. We don't do that kind of installation so I don't have any info regarding the placement of the flange.

You can definitely get a new axle with a flange pre-installed but that's something you'll need to talk with a trailer shop about as the dimensions you took aren't standard.

I also recommend going with an electric brake setup over hydraulic because it will be more cost-effective and you won't have to modify the coupler on your trailer to gain that surge feature - just unplug your trailer connector prior to backing in the water (which you should already be doing) and you can safely use it this way. Most boat trailers being manufactured today have electric brakes on them.
