Where on the Axle Do I Install a Brake Mounting Flange?

Updated 09/30/2025 | Published 09/26/2025

Question:

No where does it state the exact measurements for the 7inch - 10inch brake mounting bracket needs to be welded onto axle. Am certified Millwright and Welder, just need specs to locate the bracket? From bearing seat? From, you tell me. Thanks

Hey Ed. There's no exact measurements. You'll need to mock your axle and brakes up to find the right location for mounting the Brake Mounting Flange for 1-3/4" Round Trailer Axles item # 4-34.

Do you already have your brake assemblies and hubs?

I have not ordered yet. Wasn't going to until I knew the correct measurements. I'm guessing you assemble everything then put brake backing plate assembly so coul just touchs drum, then mark wherebracket needs to be welded square to axle?

@EdG That is correct. You won't know where to put the flange until you mount the hubs correctly on your axle's spindles. If you give me your spindle dimensions where the bearings sit or better yet your bearing sizes and lug nut pattern, I can recommend you a set of hubs and brake assemblies.
