Where Should I Mount D-Ring Tie Down Points In Relation To The Front And Rear Of The Tire?

Published 03/01/2024

Question:

I have a honda pioneer 1000 to secure on a steel bed trailer. I purchased 2 EM 58522 straps and Brophy RRo5 d rings. Question is: Where should i mount the d rings in relation to the front and rear of tire? When the strap goes over the tire should the strap hang straight down and thats my mounting point? Or should the strap angle forward a distance, say a foot? I want to do it right the first time.. Thank you very much

Hey Dwayne that is a great question. Generally, we would want the tie down points to be in line with the front and rear of the tire. So the # EM58522 straps would hang straight down and connect to the # RR05 D-ring. You can also angle them forward if needed. It really depends on the trailer, the tire and how much space you have to work with.

There really is no rule of thumb for how far away the tie down point can be, so if you have to go a foot away from the tire you definitely can. I do suggest keeping the tie down points as close to the front and rear of the tire as you can though.

I have attached a few pictures below with examples. These examples are using E-track and wheel straps but I think you can still get an idea or the proper strap angle.
