Parts Needed To Convert A Single Axle Trailer To A Tandem Axle Trailer

Question:
I have a 6 1/2 x 12 single axle trailer. Do you guys sell a kit where I can convert it to a tandem axle? My current trailer has one 3500 pound axle with no brakes.

Hi Matt,
We don't sell an all-in-one kit to add a second axle but we do offer all the components you'll need. You'll need to measure the spring center to spring center and hubface to hubface on your current axle so that you can order a match. Adding a second axle does not mean that the capacity of the trailer will double since you're still placing the weight on the frame which was only rated for up to 3,500lbs, so you'll be in a bit of a gray area in terms of capacity. If you are going to be loading more than 3,000lbs on the trailer you should really add brakes as well which would mean that you'd need a brake flange on the current axle, 4 brake assemblies, and 4 hub/drum assemblies.
For the suspension 2 leaf springs, 2 equalizers, 8 shackle straps, 2 U-bolt kits, bolts (wet or standard *your choice*), and 2 new hangers that will need to be welded on.
