Reusing Trailer Hub/Drums When Replacing Brake Assemblies
Updated 04/14/2014 | Published 04/12/2014 >
Question:
I currently have old dexter manual adjust 10inch brake assemblies on my travel trailer. Im looking to upgrade my brakes but keep costs down. Can I use my original hubs with the self adjust assemblies that I plan to buy from etrailer?

As long as your existing hub drums are in good condition (no grooves worn in the armature surface that the brake magnet rides on or the surface that the pads grab), and the 10x2-1/4 inch brake assemblies you referenced are compatible with the inside diameter and depth of your existing drums, you can certainly reuse them.
However, if the armature or brake pad surface of the existing drums are worn, you'll need to replace them.
To find the correct replacement drums, I'll need to know the wheel bolt pattern and the reference numbers from your existing bearings. I'd be happy to help.
