Question:
I have finalized my new toy hauler trailer to pull with my 2500HD 6.6 Duramax with 2 1/2" receiver. The empty weight is 6500 lbs. GVW just under 10,000 lbs. Advertised hitch weight of 1,000 lbs. What are my options for weight distribution and sway control? AND, since the travel will be used more often without hauling the 1300 lb UTV, should the hitch be setup with or without the UTV inside? How do you setup for both trailering options?

Expert Reply:
I recommend installing the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37140ET which is rated for trailers up to 14,000lbs with a tongue weight of 1,000-1,400lbs. I feel this is the best option since Equal-i-zer has a great reputation for quality and their hitch continues to be the one most others try to compete with.
As far as setup for the hitch it is best to set it to the weight of your camper with all your camping gear. While this doesn't mean you need to have your UTV inside the toy hauler portion you do want to have more than just the dry tongue weight to setup the hitch correctly. The majority of the weight of your UTV is going to sit on the axles and will not have as great of an impact on the tongue weight due to the design of the toy hauler.
A Thin Wall Socket # ALL643216 will be needed to install the included hitch ball. We also have the OnTarget Laser Measuring Tool # EQ37FR which will help with the hitch installation.
