Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com and today we're gonna take a look at this Equal-i-zer OnTarget laser measuring tool for weight distribution systems. This laser measuring tool is going to give you peace of mind when setting up your weight distribution hitch and you're not gonna have to worry about messing around with your tape measure. This will automatically calculate if your cargo weight is distributed evenly over all of your axles. It's going to measure and record your front wheel well height with and without your load attached. And then with your weight distribution system activated, it will calculate the weight distribution percentage for you. So there will be no need to do your own math which is a big positive in my book.
Now this has a measuring range of 3/16 of an inch to 164 feet and a measurement precision of plus or minus two millimeters. And I just wanted to turn this on for you real quick. You just hold the read button in and that's going to activate it. And this has a really nice easy to read screen with a backlight as you can see. And so you're gonna be able to read this in broad daylight and even in the evening.
So it's a very easy to read screen. That back light as you can see will shut off after a few seconds. To turn this off, you're just going to hold down the clear button and that's going to shut it off. And then to turn it back on, just hit the read button. Let me turn the lights off in my studio here real quick just so you can see how bright that backlight is.
So again, it's gonna be very easy to read. Now I just want to go over real generally how to use this to take measurements. And of course the included instruction book will go over in more detail how to do it but this is going to be very easy to use. You're going to begin with your trailer uncoupled from your tow vehicle. And then you're going to place this OnTarget measuring tool at the central line of your driver's side front wheel well with the screen facing you.
So you're going to position this really upside down. So this is going to be aiming that laser on the ground and then you're going to make sure that the laser hits the center of this included target reflector. So you're gonna put this target reflector on the ground and aim that laser for the target. And to make that hopefully a little more clear for you I've included a photo here of this gentleman doing that just to give you an idea of how you would use this tool. And so once you have that laser hitting that target there on the ground you're going to press the read button to take measurement A and just a note, if the measurements are taken in different places, the results will be incorrect. And then you will couple the trailer and tow vehicle together with the full tongue weight on the hitch and then perform the second measurement in the same place as your first measurement. And again, press the read button to take measurement B. Finally, engage your weight distribution by placing the spring arms on the L brackets and perform the final measurement in the same place as the first two measurements. And again, press the read button to record measurement C. So after taking all three measurements on the OnTarget measuring tool, it will calculate as a percentage, the current weight distribution achieved. And so on your screen, I'm including a photo of what the screen will look like. After you correctly take all three measurements and as you can see, it gives you a percentage. You wanna refer to your tow vehicles manufacturers' recommended weight distribution amount, if not specified it's typically recommended between 50 to 100% percent. You can then hold the save button that is indicated here by this classic floppy nest here and hold that for a few seconds to save a snapshot of your current measurement values. Now this is also going to let you easily set up your campsite with multiple measuring modes. You're gonna be able to lay out your campsite quickly and measure if you have enough space for an awning or a slide out and also level your trailer once you reach your destination for a more comfortable stay. So this comes with everything that you see here on the table in front of me. It comes with this target that we mentioned to aim at for precise measuring, comes with the wrist strap and the protective case. This is going to slide in very easily, so this is going to keep your measuring tool protected when you're not using it, can also run a belt through there as well to keep that on your belt if you would like. And then this also comes with three AAA batteries. Lemme just show that to you real quick so you'll be able to pop the batteries in once you receive this and you will be ready to go. Now this all, as I mentioned, this does also include instructions which will guide you through all of the features and of course go in more detail with everything that this includes than what we we're able to do today. This has an operating temperature from 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 104 degrees Fahrenheit and it has an IP rating of 54. Now, just to give you some overall measurements just to give you an idea of the size, the overall length or height is sitting right at four and 5/8 inches. And the overall width, we are sitting pretty close to about two inches, maybe two and 1/8 inches. And then the overall thickness, it's about an inch thick. So it's very comfortable in the hand. It has a slight rubbery grip to the casing so it's not going to easily slip out of your hand and it's going to be a very convenient tool to use. Now something like this is not necessary for you to set up your weight distribution system but it is sure going to make that job a whole lot more convenient for you. So it's definitely something to consider if you do deal with setting up your weight distribution system on a regular basis. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..
