Troubleshooting Flashing Red LEDs On The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty RED24FR

Question:
Good day, I have the TowPro liberty installed on my 2000 F250 Super Duty. The led lights up in three modes...Blue when the trailer is hooked up, Purple depending on how much brake is being applied, and Flashing Red the other 95 of the time. When first hooking up a trailer the Led USUALLY turns blue, as advertised, or it starts flashing red right away. If Blue the controller might work, might not. If it does work, it does fine proportionally braking as it should. Sometimes it starts flashing Red the second time the brakes are applied, and sometimes it waits until the next day when everything is loaded then blink, blink, blink. I have three trailers and it acts the same unpredictable way with all three. I know about the F250 brake harness debacle at the master cylinder and have had that repair done. Before I take the dash apart again and throw this thing as far as I can, I figured it would behoove me to Ask the Experts. Any thoughts? Al

The blue light is normal, the light should fade from blue to red when the brakes are being activated so the purple sounds normal as well. The flashing red light is concerning. Red LEDs on the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR can mean a few things. The first thing they the troubleshooting guide mentions is that the red light indicates the unit has detected an internal fault of your Al-Ko/iQ7 hydraulic brake system. You will need Check for faults according to the manual for your brake actuator in this case. If you do not have an Al-Ko/iQ7 hydraulic actuator, the red flashing usually indicates a bad ground, or a voltage drop between the trailer ground and vehicle ground.
Since you have tested this on multiple trailers, it is safe to say that the issue lies with the vehicle end wiring. We suggest checking all of your ground connections starting with your 7 way trailer plug making sure there is no bare wire, and the plug is free of corrosion. From there check all other associated wiring for any damage or faults.
At this point we have no reason to suspect a bad controller, so we certainly encourage you to thoroughly inspect your wiring before you throw the controller in the woods. If you do suspect something is wrong with the controller it may be worth contacting Redarc directly for a warranty.
