Question:

I have a 2012 Rockwood Windjammer model 3065W that I think the power converter is going bad. I get what look like surges with the light dimming and getting brighter while plugged into a 120V source. Its a 30A service panel. Do you know what converter was installed and what type replacement I would need?

Unfortunately, just knowing that the trailer runs off of 30 amp service won't tell me what the converter's amperage rating is. The converter is taking the AC service that your trailer has when connected to shore power and converts it into DC to recharge the battery. DC power is 1/10th of AC power so you could have a converter that ranges from 20 amps all the way up to 90 amps.

Most trailers typically have a converter rated around 30 amps to about 45 amps. The wire gauge used for your converter could possibly not be thick enough if I randomly pick a converter for you and you could end up with an electrical fire. If you don't mind running new wires to the battery from the converter then you can choose whichever size you want though since you could use the correct gauge. It's just easier to look at what's already there and match it so that it's a simple install where you can reuse the current wiring.
