Does Inserting Key into Thule T2 Lock Unlock Locking Knob

I my key into the locking knob but the key isn’t turning to create the knob to tighten so I take the rack off.

Did you turn the key in the knob before attempting to remove it? The knob doesn't automatically engage with just the key inserted.
