Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller and 7-Way 2023 Toyota Highlander without Tow Package

Question:

I need to install a brake controller and 7-way plug on a new 2023 Toyota Highlander not hybrid. It did not come with a tow package but I do have the hitch. Can you tell me which products I need? thanks

To install the Curt Echo Mobile brake controller # C51180 on your 2023 Toyota Highlander without the tow package the first thing you would need to have installed is a 4-way connector like the # C59496.

Next you will need to convert it to a 7-way and for that the kit you would want is the part # ETBC7L which comes with everything needed to have the 7-way active enough to use the Echo.

With that said the Echo is not my favorite brake controller to recommend as it sometimes has reception issues. If you were looking for something more minimalistic I would go with the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty # RED24FR with harness # RED69FR and instead of the ETBC7L go with the # ETBC7.

I really like the Tow Pro because you get the performance and reliability of a standard brake controller but instead of a large controller you might hit your knee on it only puts a small knob on the dash.
