Replacement For Titan Trailer Hub 17214

Updated 11/21/2025 | Published 05/21/2023

Question:

I am looking for Hub Assembly that is 1 1/4 inch by 3/4. 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. You use to stock titan brand # 17214 but I don`t see it anymore. This is for a shorelander boat trailer. I believe it has a 3000# axle. Do you have anything that would work?

Thank you for that info and we do have a replacement for the Titan hub 17214. That hub is for 2,500 lb axles, uses inner bearing LM67048 and outer bearing LM11949; the correct replacement for that is the following:

- Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # DX22XR

The # DX22XR has a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern like you need and comes with the bearings, races, grease seal, grease cap, wheel bolts, and lug nuts.

Hi, do you sell an axle that would fit these hubs? Starting to think I may need to replace my axle and change to leaf springs, but I already have a new pair of these hubs so would hate to waste them. Thanks!

@BrianC Sorry but I am not seeing we have an axle that would fit those hubs. They aren't exactly standard or common. What kind of trailer do you have? Know how much it weighs? A 3,500 lb axle is way more standard and parts would be readily available.

@JesseM It's an old homemade (not by me) utility trailer that I'm resurrecting. Has a solid axle with coil-sprung swingarms and shocks, and what sounds like an old Shorelander trailer axle. Had 4 on 5" hubs and wheels, but Discount Tire mistakenly threw away one of my wheels years ago and the replacement rubbed the tire on the frame so I parked it. Now I'm $200 into new hubs that fit but are just a little too tall to get a cotter pin in the hole. If I can solve that, I'll run it and then maybe convert to leaf springs and move the axle back in future, but was just thinking of possibilities of just getting a new axle. Probably should have done that in the first place, but hindsight is 20/20. ??

@BrianC So a lot of older axles used hubs that are "shorter" than the current standard. It sounds like this might be the case with your axle which would explain why you can't get the cotter pin thru. Honestly there isn't a great solution for this aside from replacing the axle. Plug, the 4 on 5" hubs are basically obsolete these days. You would really only see them on agricultural equipment. I really do think replacing the axle would be your best bet. If you want to look into that, I would need to know what hub face length you need. I would also need to know the width of the trailer frame. That will allow me to narrow down what size axle would work and what leaf springs you would need. I am happy to assist if you end up going this route. We should be able to provide most everything you would need.
