Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 2,800 lbs Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2006 Toyota Tundra and a 2016 KZ Sportsmen 16’ ultralight trailer. The GVW of the trailer is 2800 lbs. and the DRY hitch weight is 343 it’s. I am thinking of getting an Equalizer WD hitch. My trailer uses a 2” ball. What would your recommend as a model for this application? I do not want to marginally size it but at the same time I do not want it to be over-sized as well. I also see you do not sell some with a shank. Is not one needed to work?Thanks Sonoma, CA

Weight distribution systems are recommended based on the tongue weight. Typically this is 10% - 15% of your trailer's total weight which would give you a range of 280 lbs to 420 lbs. With this in mind I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control item # EQ37040ET.

This system has built in sway control that will keep your trailer in line behind your Tundra when you get passed on the highway or encounter a strong gust of wind. A 2" shank and 2" hitch ball are included. The reason some of the systems don't have an included shank is because of lifted trucks. You wouldn't be able to use the included shank if your truck had a lift and larger tires.
