Question:
I purchased a LC301702 step controller from E-trailer about a year ago and it has been doing the same thing that caused me to change out my previous controller. The steps will not stay out when the door closes regardless of the Step lockout switch position. I have verified that the red wire has 13.2V, the white wire has 13.2 v when the switch is activated and the yellow wire has 13.2 v when the ignition is on. Other than not staying out, they work perfectly. Thanks for any help.....

Did replacing your controller solve the issue temporarily or were the steps still closing when the door is shut? If there was no change the control module isn't the cause of the issue. Typically a bad ground connection can cause steps like these to act out but I know we've talked about this in the previous question you asked so I'm assuming you already checked yours and it's still giving you problems.
From there it could honestly be the lock out switch. The internal contacts of the switch may be worn and no longer making a connection when flipping the switch on or off. If this is the case then you would need part # LC379390 to replace the switch.
The only other component that could possibly be malfunctioning would be the door sensor magnet. These sensors can come in either "normally closed" or "normally open" wiring so you have to ensure you're getting the correct switch otherwise it can act in an opposite manner. To know which is the correct switch for your steps I'll need to know the step model and if possible the serial number.
