Question:
I have a Demco 2 wheel tow dolly that currently has surge brakes on it that are in need of replacement. I really dont like the surge brake system and would like to convert it to electric brakes. The tongue modification is something I will resolve. My tow vehicle is already equipped with the brake controller. I would need to replace the brake backing plates with the brakes and the wiring for the electric brakes. What more might this conversion entail?

Since Demco uses 3,500 drum brake assemblies part # DMSB24429M and # DMSB24428M what you'd need is similar 3,500 electric brake assemblies like the etrailer part # AKEBRK-35L-SA for the left hand side and # AKEBRK-35R-SA for the right hand side.
To wire these up you'd just need 10 gauge wire like the part # 10-1-1 which we sell by the foot. Then to add a 7-way the easiest way to do that is with the 7-way junction box # e99011.

So the problem I Demco, brake part, specifically back plate doesn’t have studs Studs, which will interfere with mounting the spindle flange properly. Are those studs removable?
