Question:

double axle pontoon trailer. 2 years old. moved very little . driver side back brake tire extremely worn. electric brakes. Why only one tire? Possible causes?

There are a number of possible causes for a single tire being worn on your tandem axle pontoon trailer. Since it has been moved very little, it could be that you had some flat spotting from long term storage that caused this. That would be difficult to prove at this point though since the tire is already worn from towing.

Another possible cause could be worn out suspension components or a misaligned axle. Make sure nothing is loose, bent, or damaged. The tire pressure could also be the problem. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the max psi.

Since you mentioned the brakes you could check those as well. If the brake assembly is over adjusted that could cause additional wear on that tire as well as other components. When spinning your wheel you should only feel a slight drag. If there is a lot of resistance you need to back it off.

If everything appears to check out, I recommend taking it to a local shop to have them look at the trailer just to be sure. You wouldn't want to ruin a replacement tire if something is overlooked.

Also, if you need replacement tires I would recommend going with radial instead of a bias ply tire like the # AM1ST92 you looked at. For the same tire size you could use the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10245. Radial tires will perform better and outlast the bias ply tires.
