Troubleshooting A Lippert Ground Control 3.0 External Sensor Error

Published 12/27/2022

Question:

I have read the other trouble shooting posts on your site for this error but still have some questions. We get an external sensor error intermittently on battery power. Has been a problem since new as well as with lithium batteries with 13.2 volts but if we plug in ground power or connect generator the system has always worked properly. We have inspected the sensor and associated wiring. Checked voltage at the sensor and checked wire continuity with a meter looking for opens, short to ground and shorts to each other. Everything looks and tests normal. One thing of note. What voltage is sent to the sensor? If I measure the voltage on the main control module where the rear sensor connects I get a couple volts less that the input voltage going into the module. Is that normal? What voltage is needed for the sensor to work properly? Hope this makes sense and look forward to hearing from you.

The external sensor for the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Electric 5th Wheel RV Leveling System # LC358590 requires a minimum of 12.75V DC to properly operate. This goes for all components in this system.

Since you're having issues only when running off of the battery it leads me to believe that there's an issue with the wiring or the battery itself. What is the voltage that you're getting at the sensor? I recommend checking to ensure it's receiving at minimum 12.75v DC to be sure.

Let me know what you find and we can keep troubleshooting.
