Will Adding Shocks to Trailer Suspension Reduce Chance of Springs Breaking
Published 11/17/2022 >
Question:
First of all I trust etrailer. That being said, I have a 2021 Sunset Trail 185RK. Single Axel, maybe 8000 miles on it so far. Broke a leaf spring on the last 200 miles. I am replacing springs on both sides now. Looking to make sure this never happens again as best as I can plan. Will shocks help? What else should I be thinking about? Have include photos of my axel and the broken leaf spring. Thanks in advance. BTW - axel rated at 4400 pounds, Trailer was not even close to being maxed out at 4800 pounds.

A shock kit like the Lippert # LC281281 that would fit your 4,400 lb axle is going to help prevent leaf springs from braking as it slows down the movement of the suspension up and down which will take a lot of the impact out of it that would normally damage it. This also will help improve the ride quality of the trailer too.
