High Capacity Trailer Hitch For A 2020 Ram 3500 6-1/2 Foot Bed With Factory Trailer Hitch
Published 11/04/2022 >
Question:
Were buying a bumper pull toy hauler with a dry tongue weight of 1600#. Its reported that the loaded tongue weight without a toy in the back can reach 2000#. This exceeds the 1800# tongue weight limit of the factory hitch. I cant find any info if the TW limit is increased with a WD hitch. There are great aftermarket hitches but most seem to install under the factory hitch since Ram uses the same brackets to mount the bumper. The toy hauler needs the ball at 32, well above the factory receiver at 23.5inch so I really dont want a lower receiver. I also need a 2½inch receiver to fit the shank on the WD hitch.

When it comes to raising the tongue weight capacity of your 2020 Ram 3500 I would recommend installing The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15801.The Curt hitch has a receiver opening of 2-1/2 by 2-1/2 inches and has a maximum tongue weight up to 2,700 pounds. I would recommend checking your vehicle's manual to find the proper towing capacity for your vehicle. Using this hitch with a weight distribution hitch will keep the weight ratings the same for this hitch. Using this hitch will install right underneath the factory installed hitch giving you the option to tow a trailer and then haul another item like a bike carrier. This hitch will accommodate the 2-1/2 inch weight distribution system that you have.
