Can Oil Seal be Used in Place of Grease Seal on Trailer Hub

Updated 07/26/2022 | Published 07/23/2022

Question:

2018 Forest River Wildcat Maxx Travel Trailer Hi Guys Is there an upgrade available for the OEM TRP GS-225ODL Grease Seal? I assume it would be made by a different manufacturer. You use Economy, Value and Premium. For Premium you list an Oil Seal. Can a person stay with using grease for the lubrication but switch to an oil seal to protect the brakes from contamination. Any special tools require? On my trailer, I pulled off the hubs and found grease in all four. I never used the EZ lube system. About 8,000 miles on the trailer. Sincerely

A grease seal like the part # GS-2250DL would be your best option if that is the size you need. You can go to an oil seal like with the Unitized Oil Seal for Trailer Hubs # 10-63 which is same size and it would work but it's not going to be considerably more effective or reliable than a grease seal. It might be a little bit better in how it would work out but the price is much higher.
