Question:
Hello, I’m looking at purchasing a 2014 R Pod and looking at one of these T harness hooks up for my 2011 Toyota Tacoma. How do I know if I need a 4 way or 5 way etc?

For hooking up your 2014 R Pod trailer, you need a 4-way harness. This is because 5-way harnesses are only used on some boat trailer applications. In addition to the 4-way, if your R Pod has brakes, you also need a 7-way harness installed on your 2011 Tacoma.
The 4-way harness itself provides the wiring you need to activate tail lights on the trailer. For the harness you need, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Model # 118496. This 4-way comes with a higher-quality converter box than the competitor Curt options. To add a 7-way to prep your vehicle for a brake controller, you need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7. You splice in this harness into your vehicle's wiring.
For a brake controller, the absolute best and easiest controller is the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 2 Axles # C51180. The Echo not includes a plug-and-play installation, it also allows you to control the device from the ease of your smart device. This has a huge advantage because other controls require you to purchase and splice in additional wiring.
I went ahead and attached some helpful installation videos for you to check out.
