How To Determine The Correct Replacement Hubs For A Trailer
Updated 04/25/2022 | Published 04/23/2022 >
Question:
Hello, I am restoring an old trailer that currently is using 9/16-18 x 1lg thread or 1.5inch overall wheel bolts. I really want to ditch the wheel bolts and convert to studs that could work in the same hub. what are my options?

I checked around our inventory and while we do not have what you're looking for, however we still may have an option for you.
Since we do not have the wheel studs you're looking for, my best advice is to replace the entire hub that already has the studs installed.
For instance, we have the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 8,000-lb Axles # 8-287-14UC1, which has an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern, and has the mentioned 9/16" studs already installed.
This hub is designed for idler axles, will fit 8,000lb axles, and will work with 17-01/2" to 18-1/2" wheels.
In order to determine if # 8-287-14UC1 will work for you or not, you will need to find out the weight rating of your axle, and find out what bearings your current hub has.
The physical bearings will have a part number stamped on them, and will be the only way to know what you have. This will require you to disassemble your current hub assembly.
In addition to finding out that information, you'll also need to find out what bolt pattern you have. I have included a couple help articles that should help walk you through this so we can find out what you need.
