Question:
I was told after reading a lot that if a 2017 Keystone RV Cougar X-Lite 29RES came with either a turning point or a reese revolution pin box i would be able to tow this 5th wheel safely. My truck also has a towing pkg and a 3.0 IL turbo diesel straight six. 2020 Chevy 1500 crew cab short box 70 Thanks

Since your 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 has a short bed, you would need either a rotating pin box, if your bed is 5-3/4' in length, or a sliding fifth wheel hitch, if your bed is 6-1/2' in length. These options would allow for enough turning clearance to prevent the nose of the trailer from coming into contact with the cab of your Silverado when making tight turns.
If your 2017 Keystone RV Cougar X-Lite 29RES comes with a Lippert Turning Point or Reese Sidewinder pin box then you'll need a fixed hitch like the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16115 along with the Curt Semi-Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Chevy/GMC Truck # C65KR to mount the hitch to the bed. You'll also need the Curt E-Series sidewinder wedge # 30861 to prevent the king pin of your pin box from rotating in the jaws of your hitch.
If you have a 6-1/2' bed and your camper comes with a standard pin box then all you'll need is a sliding hitch like the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider # C16521 along with the # C65KR rails to mount it to the bed. This hitch has up to 12" of fore/aft movement to allow for enough turning clearance through tight turns.
One other thing you'll need to look into is your Silverado's towing capacity. You can find this in your owner's manual or by contacting a local GM dealer with your VIN so that they can look up your truck's specific gearing. You'll want to ensure that you truck is capable of towing the trailer before hooking up.
