How to Grease a Dexter EZ Lube Axle

EZ Lube axles like the item # T3584F-EZ-8974 come from the factory with just a little bit of grease in the bearings. The first time you use the EZ Lube feature to fill the axle, it will take a lot of grease. You will probably use 3/4 to a full tube for each wheel. You will need the Performance Tools Heavy Duty Grease Gun - Lever Action - Aluminum item # PTW54290 to pump the grease into your axle. I have personally owned this grease gun for years and I have never had any issues or blow outs with it. For lubricant you'll want to use LubriMatic LMX Industrial Strength Grease - 14 oz. Cartridge item # L11390.

Here are the steps you will need to follow to properly lubricate your EZ Lube Axles:

1. Use wheel chocks on opposite side of trailer
2. Jack up a wheel enough that it can spin freely
3. Remove the cap covering the axle zerk fitting
4. Attach grease gun to zerk and start pumping grease while rotating wheel
5. Continue pumping grease until the new grease starts coming out the front
6. Remove grease gun, wipe away excess grease, and replace cap
7. Lower wheel and repeat for the other wheels

Thanks Jerred. I have seen so many comments people taking polar opposite positions on EZ Lubing wheels. EZ Lube has been around for years. "Why would Dexter promote this technology if it weren't validated and trusted", I thought. I trust eTrailer. Thanks.

@Dr_s - This might work with old thin grease, but the Dexter ez-Lu e spindle does NOT work with new bearing brake assembly. Using the ez-lube feature you WILL fill you take assemble with grease resulting on an a tire day removing almost an entire tube of grease from the brake assemble, hopefully salvaging the brake shoes. On new assemblies only grease the bearing, do NOT pump grease 8th the hub, and call it a day. Attempting to fill the hub will result in brake shoe contamination. The seal will not res5rict thick new grease from seeping past the seal into the brake assembly. The new thick grease is too thick to be for ed thru the bearings. The recommended procedure is for maintenance only, NOT assembly with new brakes and new hubs.

Hey Scott! The correct bearing kit for your Dexter 6k axle is the Bearing Kit, 15123/ 25580 Bearings, 10-36 Seal #BK3-100. If you want the Dexter version it is the #DX26ER. What kind of trailer do you have?
