Question:
Hello, Regarding the electric over hydraulic actuator: The instruction manual calls out for Dot3 or Dot4 brake fluid. The newer Dot5 has better resistance against moisture absorbing into the brake system. As well as Dot 5 is better for brake systems that are setting a lot intermittent use such as boat trailers. Is Dot 5 -OK to use in the HBA 16? Thank you

Expert Reply:
HydraStar will only allow for DOT3 and DOT4 brake fluid to be used with their Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator # HBA16. I understand your reasoning behind wanting to use DOT5 but do note that different brake fluids will have different corrosive properties against different materials, which is why the type of brake fluid is limited on applications.
