That is a good question. I suppose it depends on how it is formulated and what its ratings are. Take a look at the FAQ article I have linked that covers everything you ever wanted to know about grease but were afraid to ask. The first part covers what the various letter ratings mean. Ideally you want something that is GC-LB rated.

The FAQ also discusses choosing the best grease for an application and a compatibility chart. But when in doubt, clean it out. Meaning that if you are not sure about compatibility, before adding new grease you must completely remove the old grease.
