Does Replacing Trailer Wiring Connector Require Disconnecting Battery

Question:

Can I cut off the old plug and replace wire for wire on the new plug or do I need to disconnect the battery or anything else first?

When replacing a trailer wiring connector that carries a 12 volt accessory circuit like a 7-way like the part # PK12703 it would be wise to disconnect the battery as that circuit is hot all the time and it could cause a short. But if you were replacing a 4-way like # 18252 with the vehicle off none of the pins would have voltage at any time so you could do that without disconnecting battery.
