I have a 2022 Toyota Highlander. I am interested in towing a trailer, what do I need? I do not have the factory tow package.

The first thing that you need to tow a trailer is a hitch receiver. My recommendation is the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2", part # e75ZR. It has a maximum tongue weight of 500 lbs and a maximum gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs. Once you have the hitch receiver installed, you need the trailer wiring.

Once you have the 4-way wiring harness connected you can tow trailers and your trailers lighting will mirror the lighting of the tow vehicle. Specifically, the brake lights, turn signals, and running lights, all work when your trailer is plugged into the 4-way connector. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part # TK99FR, is the wiring harness that I recommend. It is a plug and play wiring harness, so there is no wire splicing that is necessary. The connection points are behind the trim panel nears the driver's side rear seat belt bracket.
