Question:
I just purchased a Hollywood RV Rider ebike bike rack from Etrailer. I would like to carry a spare tire for my Thor Compass 23 ft motorhome which is on a Ford Transit chassis. I plan to carry two 70+ pound ebikes maybe less if I remove the batteries Can I attach this loaded rack to the Rm195225 since the tongue weight capacity is higher~400 pounds or should I go with a Gen Y rise hitch which has much higher tongue weight rating. I have a cargo carrier already but would need to buy the GenY with 12 1/2 rise to clear the tire in the carrier. I would prefer the Roadmaster option costlyrather than having to lift the ebikes into this rack which would be way up in the air above the cargo carrier with the tire lying flat Any other thoughts?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Though the Roadmaster Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier # RM-195225 does have a 400 pound tongue weight capacity, it does reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 33 percent. So if your hitch is rated to 500 pounds of tongue weight, as an example, it will now be 335 pounds of carrying capacity once the # RM-195225 is used to carry the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack # HLY64FR. With this rack weighing 70 pounds and both your bikes weighing 70 pounds, you will still be well within range, but I highly recommend confirming your tongue weight capacity before going forward. I also highly recommend using the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 as this will keep everything securely in place.
I wasn't sure about using the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # 325-GH-316 in the manner you mentioned, so I did contact them to make sure it was ok. Unfortunately, they do not recommend using their mount like this and it could cause a potential failure, so I suggest not going that route.
