How Much Space Is Needed To Install The Timbren TFRTT350J On A 2022 Ford F-250 With An In-Bed Camper

Updated 04/30/2025 | Published 12/09/2021

Question:

I am looking to install the Timbren TFRTT350J on my 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty that I am putting an in-bed camper on. This thing is on the large and heavy side so I definitely want to get the jounces upgraded. How tall are these though? I have about 8.5 inches of space between the axle and where this would mount. Is this enough space?

The Timbren TFRTT350J will measure 7" from the top of the bracket to the bottom of the rubber spring/jounce. With you having 8-1/2" of space on your 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty, you will have a 1-1/2" gap between the bottom of the spring/jounce. It is recommended to have anywhere from 1/2" at the minimum up to 1-1/2" at the maximum for this spacing, so it will definitely work for you. Especially once the camper is installed in the bed. With this also having an 8,000 pound load leveling capacity, it will serve you very well.

Hi I had ordered the TFRTT350J for my 2019 F350 because I have a truck camper. But after reading more into them and some reviews I am afraid the ride will be to stiff and at a price of 400.00 maybe I should have went with air bags or the other timbrens or sumo or something. Any thoughts would be great. I see that timbren will let you try them for up to 100 days I haven't put these on yet because I'm afraid I won't be able to return them if I have tem thanks in advance for the reply Gavin Herremans

@Gavinherremans I can definitely help you out with this! When you are seeing people say they caused a harsh ride, we have heard that to be accurate when you are unloaded. However, if you will be keeping the camper in your truck bed full time, we have also heard very good things. They offer great support and the constant weight keeps them from causing that harsh ride. Even if you aren't loaded full time and since you already have them, try them out. Timbren's 100-Day Money Back Guarantee is unmatched in the industry and really offers people the chance to see if they like them or not. Plus the install is pretty quick and easy. If you don't end up liking them, you will first need to go through Timbren directly for troubleshooting or possible alternatives. If they can't get you all squared away, they will send you back to us and we will create a pre-paid return label for you to return them for a full refund. Even when they have been fully installed and used. As to an alternative to the Timbren jounces, people that have SumoSprings do swear by them, but I am and always will be an air bag guy. Reason being, they are fully adjustable. They can be stiff when you need them and soft when you don't. This means you get all the support you need when loaded up, but then when you aren't you don't have a harsh ride and you stay as close to stock as possible. If you end up deciding to go with air bags, I highly recommend the Firestone Airide Red Label Extreme Duty # F95FV. These are rated up to 7,500 pounds of load leveling capacity (at their max 150 psi), but can then be aired down to 5 psi, the bags have a lifetime warranty, and the bags a roll crimped at the ends making them the strongest in the industry. These are the way I would go if it were me doing it. Let me know if you have any other concerns or questions, always here to help! : )
