Price Conscious Weight Distribution Hitch System For 4,000LB Boat Trailer With Straight Pole Tongue

Updated 11/23/2021 | Published 11/22/2021

Question:

I have a 2019 Ford Explorer with 3.5L TiVCT Engine 4WD. Maximum trailer weight rating is 4,000 lbs. and 5,000 lbs. with weight distribution hitch. My Class III hitch is rated at 4,000 lbs. and 5,000 lbs. with weight distribution. I have a 21foot Triumph 210CC Chaos boat and pole trailer that weighs right around 4,000 lbs. Ford recommends a weight distribution system if towing over 3,500 lbs. I know I need the E-Trailer Pole tongue adapter and am looking for your advice on the most economical weight distribution system to make this work. Budget is my main concern.

Expert Reply:

For the most price-conscious weight distribution system, the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17050 can be used with the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter # RP3280 on your Chaos boat trailer. This will take care of the weight distribution that Ford recommends that you use on your 2019 Ford Explorer.

I recommend the Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution w Sway Control # RE34FR as it will give you added stability with the sway control. The sway control helps to reduce any trailer sway that you may encounter while driving. It uses friction between the weight distribution bars and the sway brackets to minimize sway from winds or that is caused by sudden maneuvers while driving. You will need the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter # RP58393 with this hitch as it will allow you to properly mount the sway bracket arms.
