Question:

Good afternoon! I am considering adding rear SumoSprings Maxim to my 21foot Chinook RV on a 2004 E350 chassis. The main reason is to smooth out the ride on harsh roads and uneven surfaces, but also to improve handling. Load is not much of an issue as its a small RV with rarely more than 2 of us traveling in the cab, and typically more load would soften the ride with the 1-ton factory leaf springs. It has fresh Bilsteins in the rear too. My concern is that the black springs SSF-106-47-1 will be too stiff for what Im trying to accomplish, but seems to be the most common part for my application. Would the lighter duty blue SSF-106-40-1 be a better choice, or stick with the black simply because its a motorhome? Thanks for your help

Though this is a bit of an estimation, an average 2004 Chinook RV on an E-350 chassis will weigh around 10,000 pounds. This is around 4,000 pounds heavier than a standard E-350. I mention this as it will play into which SumoSprings kit you end up deciding on.

With all that being said, the blue kit # SSR-106-40-1 will have a 3,000 pound capacity (at 50% compression) and may not do as much as you want it to. Typically this will be used on a standard E-350 to add support when needed, so with you having a lot more weight, I do recommend going with the higher capacity black ones. The yellow set up will be too heavy duty for what you are wanting, so this will be the only time I mention it.

The SumoSprings Maxim # SSR-106-47-1 will have a 5,000 pound capacity (at 50% compression again) and I think will be a better option.
