Can The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit for 5,200 - 6,000lb Axles Be Used On 3,500lb Dexter Axles?

I have a different option for you, but the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR526D you were looking at is designed for 5,200 - 6000lb axles and as such will not work with your 3,500lb Dexter axle.

Instead you will need to go with the 3,500lb Disc Brake Kit # K2HR35DS as it uses the same # L68149 and # L44649 bearing combination as your axles, and is designed for the 4-bolt brake mounting flange you have.

With that said this kit and all of the brake kits for a 3,500lb axle are only rated for wheels up to 15" in diameter so you will need to change your wheels to 15". This is due to the amount of hub face to wheel contact area there is. Using wheels larger then recommended can lead to severe damage to the axle/hub. I went ahead and included a link to our selection of wheels that use the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern of the recommended kit.

Now unless your trailer already have disc brakes you will still need a few more components. If the trailer uses surge brakes but had drum brakes you will need to replace the actuator with one rated for disc brakes such as the # DM62VR designed for 3" wide tongues.

If your trailer currently has electric drum brakes then you will need to add brake lines # 18SI-BLKIT if your trailer has a single axle, or # HS496-252 if you have tandem axles.

You will then need to add an electric over hydraulic actuator # HS381-8067 for controlling the brakes, but you will need to make sure your current trailer brake controller is compatible with EOH brakes. If it is not replacing it with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is recommended as this is one of the best EOH compatible controllers on the market.
