Question:
I have a new trailer. Can I start one of the 14500 BTU Furrion Roof Air conditioners with a Champion 2500 watt generator using propane? We are thinking of buying 2 generators and paralleling normally, but if one alone is working, will it do the job if only powering 1 roof air?

Expert Reply:
The Furrion Chill 13,500 BTU # FR76PR draws more wattage/amperage (4000w) when starting compared to when running so you would need a generator with more wattage than a 2500w Champion generator or you would need to install a start capacitor/soft start like the SoftStartRV Soft Start for RV AC Units - Qty 1 # SSR54FR.
Since you're already considering upgrading your generator you could go with a parallel generator kit like the 4,500-Watt Portable RV Generator # 333-0005, which would provide more than enough power to start and run your AC unit, plus a variety of other appliances. This would also work with the SoftStart # SSR54FR and truly limit the strain on a parallel generator setup while allowing you to start up the AC even when your fridge and other appliances are running.
