Wiring Needed To Install A Curt Echo and Curt 7-Way With Backup Alarm On a 2016 Kia Sportage

The first step will be completing the installation of the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter with Backup Alarm # C57102 on to your 2016 Kia Sportage.

You will need enough 12 Gauge Wire # 12-1-1 to run from the 7-way to where you will be tapping into the battery 12 volt source. This is sold by the foot so remember to account for all the bends along your Sportage to get it to your battery source. A Deka Ring Terminal # DW05741-1 will help you to connect to your power supply. The best way to do this will be on the power lug inside your engine compartment fuse panel.

Next you will need enough 16 Gauge Wire # DW02359-1 to tap into the reverse circuit on the rear of your Sportage. You will need a Test Light # PTW2993 to identify the correct wire on your tail light circuit to tap into with a Quick Splice # SWC502905-1.

Finally you will want to locate a good chassis ground location to connect the ground wire of the 7-way. You will need more of the 12 Gauge Wire # 12-1-1 and a Deka Ring Terminal # DW05741-1 to make this connection.

With those connections complete the backup alarm will function properly and allow you to use a Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller # C51180. With this you will be able to control your brakes on the 2022 Aliner 12 popup from your smartphone with the Curt Echo App. And don't worry if your phone should lose connection the Echo will continue to brake with the last programmed brake setting. As this is a proportional controller it will automatically adjust for light and heavy braking so there is no need for constant adjustments like with timed brake controllers.
