Is There A Platform Hitch Bike Rack That Includes A Ramp And Is Compatible With A Bike With Fenders
Question:
I am looking for a bike rack that eliminates need to have contact points with the frame. I like this Saris model since it will work with my wife Blix Aveny ebike and my regular bike. The problem I see is that my wifes bike has fenders. I think the rack would work with the front tire but the back fender would only allow the support to com up and touch the tire about two inches above the height of the rear hub. If this doesnt work then my next ion would be the Yakama On ramp rack. I worry the support bar will rub on the frame but wonder what your experience is. As you can tell I need a rack with a ramp as I am 70 years old and can no longer lift a heavy ebike. My wife and I ride bikes pretty regularly for exercise. Thanks for your assistance.

You are correct. The Saris MHS Modular Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Tilting, part # SAR73MR, will not work with your wife's Blix Aveny because the rear fender will interfere with the racks arms. Another reason it will not work is because it is not compatible with travel-trailers. However, the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount, part # Y36FR, is compatible with travel trailers.
It also comes with a ramp to help you load the heavier ebike. The clamps are padded with ratcheting straps. These clamps will protect the frames of your bike, while the strap ensures you cannot overtighten the clamp when securing your bike. The OnRamp also has a tilt down mast, so you can access the rear of the vehicle at all times, even when the rack is transporting bikes. The rack has an anti-rattle hitch system that reduces the movement between the bike rack and the hitch receiver. The rack comes with cables to lock the rack to your vehicle. You can also add the Yakima HitchLock for Yakima Hitch Mounted Bike Racks - Same Key System (SKS). part # Y07235, to your rack to secure it to your vehicle.
